Speakers

Although the demonstrations that took place across Southern California were in protest against the brutality inflicted on Black people, the participants and speakers were truly representative of American diversity. The speakers came from groups of all ages, colors, genders, religions, and identities. As a Black man in America who has had some less-than-cordial encounters with the police, I was moved on many occasions by the eloquent words spoken by people who may not have looked like me, but courageously lent their voices to bringing an end to these humiliating and too-often deadly experiences. In this section of the exhibition you may see speakers you recognize whom we did not identify, so as not to bring them any unwanted attention for expressing their First Amendment rights.
