California Weckruf
TitleCalifornia Weckruf
DescriptionCalifornia Weckruf was a newspaper published irregularly in Los Angeles by Deutsches Haus, beginning in the mid-1930s. This is page 1 of issue 1 of the publication, the Offizielles Organ des Bundes ’Freunde des Neuen Deutschland’ (Official Organ of the 'Friends of New Germany'). The lead article is "Why Speaks the Whole World of Germany?", with the byline of Doug Brinkley. The article laments the bad press Germany was receiving at the time, and advises the reader: "Any American traveler, or others who have visited or toured the new Germany, since Hitler came into power, will bring to you the same story of peace and order ... Germans under Hitler have become a united people working only for the peace of the world with a desire for national greatness and to retain their culture and civilization." 18 x 12 in.
