The Anti-Nazi News (subtitle: A Journal in Defense of American Democracy) was a publication produced by the Hollywood Anti-Nazi League from October 1936 through February 1940. The purpose of the league newspaper was to alert the public to local, national, and international Nazi activities. This particular issue - the first - features the main banner headline: "HOLLYWOOD FIGHTS NAZISM". The accompanying story is about a mass meeting being held at the Shrine Auditorium (see item CRCms136 in this collection for more details). Another headline reads: "Lutherans in Germany Defy Death in Protest to Hitler: Join Catholics in Move to Fight Reich's Suppression of Religious Freedom". Also in this issue was a grim political cartoon, depicting a gaunt-faced Nazi soldier carrying the flag of the Third Reich, with the heading: "THE THIRD REICH MARCHES ON" (see CRCms142b). 17 x 11.5 in.
