Communism in Government: Betsky Russ
TitleCommunism in Government: Betsky Russ
DescriptionFeaturing a very peculiar caricature of Joseph Stalin in the attire of a colonial woman (sewing a flag, à la Betsy Ross), this is a reprint of an article entltled "Communism in Government". The drawing itself features the title "Betsky Russ." The flag being sewn by Stalin/Betsky resembles a Union Jack, with stars in the upper corner similar to what is found on the American flag, except with a red hammer-and-sickle partly obscuring the field of stars. The beginning of the article states: "American history has been put in reverse several times lately but we never thought we'd live to see Stalin in the role of Betsy Ross! However, if the idea of 'Union Now' is carried to its logical conclusion under the present setup even this may come to pass." 9 x 6 in.
