What is wrong with the movies?
TitleWhat is wrong with the movies?
DescriptionWhat Is Wrong With The Movies? is the question posed by the title of this booklet, written in 1938 by Dr. John R. Rice. Rice was a fundamentalist Baptist evangelist and founder of a bi-weekly Christian publication called "The Sword of the Lord". This booklet elaborated on Rice's contention that "thousands of girls and boys are led into crime and adultery by the picture shows". Cover illustrations depict various decadent activities one might expect to see in movies of the late 1930s, including gangsters, smoking guns, scantily-clad showgirls, and a couple in a lustful embrace. 8 x 5.5 in.
