Title	Framed and mounted "Oracle Bone" from Shanghai Normal University, undated
Description	This framed and mounted bone fragment was a gift to California State University, Northridge (CSUN) President Dr. James Cleary (1969-1992) from the Shanghai Normal University in China. Oracle Bones like this were used in ancient Chinese rituals to ask for and receive information from ancestors about the future. (This particular one appears to be more of a souvenir of the University than an actual Oracle Bone.) Among Dr. Cleary's accomplishments as president of CSUN was the creation of numerous exchange programs with nations world-wide, including China. Bone, 9 (height) x 6.75 (length) x 1 (width) in.
