This honorary Doctor of Humane Letters was issued for Bob Hope by the Trustees of the California State Colleges and is signed by both the chairman of the Board of Trustees, E. Guy Warren, and the governor of the State of California, Mr. Ronald Reagan. The certificate remains unsigned by both the Chancellor and the President of the college because it was never awarded; the plan faced opposition on campus because of Hope's support for U.S. policy in Indochina. So concerned was Hope for his safety, he declined to come to the campus to receive the degree. Certificate, 8.5 x 11 in.
