Portrait of San Fernando Valley State College (now CSUN) student Frank del Olmo. Frank del Olmo was born in Los Angeles, California on May 18, 1948. After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), del Olmo entered San Fernando Valley State College to study journalism. He graduated from Valley State in 1970, when he was honored with the Wolfson Scholarship, given to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average. As a student he was active with both the bi-lingual newspaper, "El Popo" and with the campus newspaper, the Sundial. He went on to an illustrious career with the Los Angeles Times, where, over a period of thirty years, he worked as a reporter, columnist, editorial writer and editor until his death in 2004.
