Description	Photograph of the inauguration of Dr. James W. Cleary, second president of San Fernando Valley State College (SFVSC) and California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Dr. Cleary's tenure spanned 23 years, 1969-1992. He is remembered on campus for his solid support of the school's Educational Opportunities Program (EOP), his role in establishing CSUN as a center for educating deaf and other disabled students, and the international reputation currently enjoyed by the university. The Exxon Foundation named President Cleary one of the nation's 100 most effective college presidents in 1986. This photo depicts Cleary approaching a podium adorned with the school seal, shaking hands with an unidentified man wearing sunglasses. They are standing beneath a striped tarpaulin; there are five men visible seated on folding chairs in the background. Black and white photograph, 8 x 10 in.
