Description	Chinese Ambassador Chai Zemin and President of California State University, Northridge (CSUN) Dr. James Cleary sit for a casual conversation. Chai was the first of China's representatives in the United States (1979-1983). His political activism began early and he entered China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1960. This image represents early contact between CSUN and China which share a long and prosperous history. The China Institute at CSUN, established in 1982, endeavors to promote a better understanding of the Chinese culture and to strengthen the friendship between American and Chinese peoples. Black and white photograph, 5 x 7 in.
