Ten scenes from the Mission Play written by John Steven McGroarty reproduced on postcards were sold as collectors sets at the Mission Curio-Art Shop at the Mission Playhouse in San Gabriel, California. Description from 1947 season playbill: "The curtain rises showing the compound of the Mission of San Carlos at Carmel. . . . The padres, soldiers, Spanish settlers and Indians -- men, women, and children appear on the stage singing the morning hymn of the missions, and the procession headed by Indian acolytes precedes Father Junipero and the priests into the church for early mass."
