Comisión Femenil San Fernando Valley sponsors an annual gala, Viva la Mujer, during which they recognize Latinas who have distinguished themselves in their profession and who have made significant contributions to their community. Each year a different group of women are honored that have worked in fields such as education, law, medicine, media, and community service organizations. The Sixth Annual Gala, Viva la Mujer--Women Activists, recognized three Latina women who have been strong advocates for social change. As indiciated on the program, elected public officials often serve as members of the Honorary Committee for the event.
