The annual Journalism Opportunities Conference, the largest job fair on the West Coast for journalists of color, is held every October in downtown Los Angeles. One of the sponsors of the conference is the California Chicano News Media Association (CCNMA) whose mission is "to promote diversity in the news media by providing encouragement, scholarships and educational programs for Latinos pursuing careers in the news media, and to foster an accurate and fair portrayal of Latinos in the news media, and promoting the social, economic and professional advancement of Latino journalists." Frank del Olmo co-founded this organization in 1972 and also served as its president for two years.
Frank del Olmo was born in Los Angeles, California on May 18, 1948. After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), del Olmo entered California State University, Northridge (CSUN) to study journalism.
