Calabasas Historical Society

The Calabasas Historical Society was founded in 1979 to promote and preserve the historical interests of Calabasas and the surrounding environs. The Society periodically sponsors public tours and educational lectures in various locations, and grants annual scholarships to students studying history and agriculture at Los Angeles Pierce College in Woodland Hills. Additionally, the Society is committed to honoring citizens who have contributed to the history of Calabasas by its presentation of the Living History Award. The Society holds board meetings at the Masson Homestead House, located at Headwaters Corner at Calabasas by Mountains Restoration Trust, publishes a monthly newsletter (on hiatus during July and August) and provides monthly tours to sites of historical interest.

Board Meetings: 1st Monday of the month, 9:30 a.m. (no meetings in July or August) held in the Masson Homestead House on the grounds of the Mountains Restoration Trust located at 23075 Mulholland Highway, Calabasas.

Sites

While the Calabasas Historical Society doesn't have a permanent location, we maintain many sites of historical importance around the area:

• The Kathleen Beachy Memorial Library, housed in the Los Angeles Pierce College Library. All of the historical items are catalogued and integrated into the Pierce College library catalogue. The library features rare and out-of-print books about local history; taped oral histories reflecting the memories of early residents; photographs, artifacts and other memorabilia.

• The Ruth Loring Memorial Collection of Southern California History, housed within the Calabasas City Library. This historical room will be expanded when the Calabasas City Library moves to their new location within the Calabasas Civic Center in mid 2008.
